In-Person & Telehealth Appointments

I offer both in-person and telehealth appointments, with the flexibility to move between the two based on your needs, circumstances, and preferences.

My Approach

Science, insight, and movement toward well-being.

My approach combines a strong therapeutic relationship with brain-based understanding and practical strategies for change.

Grounded

A strong therapeutic alliance creates the foundation for meaningful psychological work.

Integrated

I connect brain science with emotion, behavior, physiology, and the stressful realities of everyday life. I draw from multiple therapeutic modalities and integrate perspectives from both Western and Eastern medicine, recognizing that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to psychological treatment. Together, we identify the strategies that best fit you, your needs, and your goals.

Practical

Insight becomes useful when it leads to concrete strategies that support confidence, resilience, and lasting change.

A Holistic Approach to Mental Wellness

After more than 20 years of working in this community, I have developed relationships with a broad network of trusted professionals and resources. When appropriate, I can help connect you with additional support—including psychiatry, primary care, nutrition professionals, physical therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, and yoga—to complement our work together. I believe mental wellness is influenced by the interconnected health of the brain, body, relationships, and environment, and treatment is often most effective when we consider the whole person.

A Neuropsychological Lens

Understanding behavior through the brain.

My specialty lies in understanding the relationship between the brain, behavior, emotion, performance, stress, and overall wellness. Rather than viewing symptoms in isolation, I help clients make sense of how these systems interact.

Understand

Identify patterns in thinking, emotion, physiology, stress, and behavior.

Connect

Use brain-based science to make sense of what you are experiencing and why.

Change

Translate insight into practical strategies that support confidence, resilience, and lasting change.

Areas of Focus

Psychotherapy for full and demanding lives.

Anxiety

Develop greater nervous system regulation while understanding the patterns that contribute to worry, fear, and feeling overwhelmed. We’ll work toward responding to stress with greater flexibility, confidence, and a stronger sense of control.

Mood Disorders

Understand and manage depression, mood changes, and emotional patterns with an emphasis on mood regulation and overall functioning. When appropriate, we can also discuss whether medication interventions may be worth exploring as part of a comprehensive treatment approach.

Life Transitions

Life naturally waxes and wanes, but change and uncertainty can still feel unsettling—and sometimes scary. Psychotherapy can provide a grounded place to navigate transitions, understand what is shifting, and move into the next chapter with greater clarity and confidence.

Sports Performance

As an endurance athlete myself, I bring a firsthand understanding of the physical and mental pressures faced by high-performing individuals. I combine that perspective with psychological science to identify barriers, strengthen mental resilience, maximize performance outcomes, and help you move toward your physical and performance goals.

Women’s Health

Explore the emotional and psychological impact of different life stages and physiological changes, including how these shifts can influence identity, relationships, mood, confidence, and an overall sense of well-being.

Busy Professionals

A demanding professional life can make it difficult to maintain the balance necessary for emotional and physical well-being. Psychotherapy can help you create greater balance, clarify meaningful priorities, and protect your well-being without losing sight of your professional goals.

About Dr. Kate Spurry

Collaborative, compassionate, scientifically informed, and direct.

I’m a licensed clinical psychologist with more than 25 years of combined experience in mental health and university-level instruction. My work is informed by neuropsychology and by the science connecting brain function to behavior, emotion, performance, and wellness.

Together, we identify what is keeping you stuck, make sense of the patterns involved, and build practical steps toward meaningful change. My goal is to help you develop greater clarity, confidence, resilience, and an overall sense of well-being.

Experience & Credentials

I bring more than 25 years of combined experience in mental health and university-level instruction across a wide range of settings—from emergency room crisis evaluations and jail assessments to family court, individual psychotherapy, and working with teens in wilderness settings (which was always fun and never boring!). These experiences have shaped how I understand people, resilience, and the many ways we respond to stress, adversity, relationships, and change.

Let’s connect to see if my experience and approach are a good fit for what you’re looking for.

Outside the Office

Staying connected to what keeps life meaningful.

When I’m not working, I like to be outside. My background as an endurance and collegiate athlete has given me a firsthand understanding of the physical and mental demands of high performance. I still love trail running, along with hiking, skiing, playing in the water, seeing live music, laughing often, and spending time with family, friends, and animals of pretty much every kind.

Living in the mountains, staying active, and maintaining meaningful connections are important parts of my own sense of balance and well-being.

The Therapeutic Relationship

Goodness of fit matters.

Psychotherapy is deeply personal, and a strong therapeutic alliance helps facilitate change. I strive to create a relationship in which you feel supported and understood while also being appropriately challenged. I am active in the process with you—helping you make connections, recognize patterns, and determine what you can do differently.

Self-Pay & Insurance Reimbursement

Simple, transparent self-pay psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy sessions are $200 and offered on a self-pay basis. I recognize that psychotherapy is both a personal and financial commitment, and accessibility to mental health care is important to me. I provide a superbill after each session that you may submit to your insurance carrier for possible out-of-network reimbursement, and I’m happy to guide you through the process.
